Let's get them started young

Last week we held another beginner class. Here is one of our beginners with two of her Log Cabin blocks. She got all four of her blocks done in the morning class. The class included topics such as how to use a rotary cutter safely, then finding and keeping to the elusive quarter inch seam, reading and following a pattern and the importance of pressing carefully. She had a great time based on the smile on her face. We will continue to offer classes but not likely many in the winter as the roads in and around Port Elgin can be impassable with very little notice.

Another Store sample ready to hang

We had a number of half meter cuts in the store from various fabric lines. Joanne found this pattern and it uses 6 half yard cuts. So a sample was put together. The pattern is from Cozy Quilt Designs and is called Corporate Ladder. They have several patterns that use 1/2 yard cuts.
It is Thanksgiving weekend and in Saugeen Shores that usually signifies the end of summer. We have a few classes booked from now until mid-November. At that time the traveling can become challenging and we will not likely be booking significant class events over the winter months. That of course could be subject to review.
Before traveling does become an issue make sure you drop by. elaine has an amazing variety of fabrics in our small little store and we are always happy to see you.  Joanne

Be certain to visit us this summer for the Row by Row Experience

Clearly photography is not one of my skills. Elaine is holding up our sample row for the row by row Experience. We have a number of the designated fabrics available in store. Louise has been busy getting our kits ready. Also watch for the tote bag to be done as a class on June 17th in the Row by Row fabrics as well as other fabric combinations.
This Saturday we are having our fifth Saturday sale (a week late for a variety of reasons). Several terrific sale items and lots of staff on hand to help you out.

Quilt shows are sometimes a guessing game

The booth was set up Thursday afternoon and ready for the show to open on Friday morning. The Bluewater Quilters Guild stages a show every two to three years. This years show was held at the Bayshore Arena in Owen Sound. Close to 200 quilts were on display at the show. It is sometimes difficult to decide what to take to display and sell at a show and what to leave behind at the shop.

Saturday at Shoreline Quilts

It was a busy Saturday at Shoreline Quilts. Elaine (the owner in the red vest) had a lot of cutting to do for this customer. Ann was job shadowing and will start working with us soon and Joanne was quilting a sample for a store display and then helping some customers.
We are constantly getting in new fabrics. Our batik row is looking particularly wonderful right now. Several beginner classes have been held and we have a finish up your beginner class scheduled towards the end of April. We also are offering a quilt class for the Gundrun Erla pattern Strip Cocoon. The pattern is strip friendly but can also be made using fat quarters.
Our first anniversary is coming up in April watch our Facebook page or this blog for more details as they become available. Joanne
